Dewey Beach
The Narrow Strip Between Two Waters

Dewey Beach

Ocean on one side, bay on the other, and about four blocks of sand between them.

Delaware

Dewey is Delaware's smallest big idea: a sliver of land narrow enough that you can watch the sun rise over the Atlantic and set over Rehoboth Bay without moving your car. That geography does something to the town's whole personality — loud and social after dark, but genuinely serene at low tide on the bay side before anyone else is up.

It's known as the party cousin of the Delaware beaches, and some of that reputation is earned after 9 PM in July. But arrive early, or come in shoulder season, and Dewey is one of the best-kept sunrise-to-noon towns on the whole coast.

The bay side at Rodney Street, right around sunset, is Dewey at its best — quiet water, no boardwalk, just the light doing all the work.
